Willow Burn Hospice – Giving back to the local community.
As a local business, it’s important to give back to the local community. There are many charities across the North East providing excellent services, however sometimes it’s your local charity that needs the support of a local business.
We first met the Willow Burn Hospice at the Derwentside Business Network. They announced to the group that if any local businesses wanted to support their charity, they can and that it doesn’t have to be a monetary donation. Willow Burn Hospice was willing to accept any help from local businesses offering their services to the charity. For me, I felt I could help the charity more by producing a video rather than giving them a donation.
I’m not saying this because I didn’t want to donate money – to the contrary. I am a big believer in the power of video and I felt I could produce a video for them that would allow Willow Burn Hospice to promote themselves/future events. After chatting with Laura from the charity, we decided we would produce a promotional video for their Colour Run so they could use the video to promote the event for next year.
The event was a huge success for the charity. I don’t think anyone left without a face full of neon coloured powder thanks to the crew covering the runners as they completed the course. The whole event was full of laughter and shrieks and lots of awkward dad dancing too. We felt this summed up the family feel the charity has within the community and this needed to be reflected through the video.
By providing the charity with a promotional video for the event, it will mean that they can provide potential runners for next year with a glimpse of the event. The video will also allow Willow Burn to be to show potential sponsors what the event is and why they should get involved with supporting them.
Willow Burn Hospice has an annual cost of care bill of £1.5million. The government only provide 30% funding toward this overall annual bill.
Willow Burn Hospice deliver excellent care for their patients and their families with palliative and end of life care needs. Their goal is to become leaders in the provision of specialist patient-focussed palliative and end of life care services that meet the needs of their community now and into the future.
